The Challenge
Nugent Sand Company needed a dredge solution to mine wet reserves after depleting the dry reserves at a 2,000 acre site in Milton, Kentucky.
Our Solution
The Marlin Class Dredge is an excellent choice for this site, located just outside of Carrollton, Kentucky. DSC has designed this Marlin Class to meet the need for 80+ feet of underwater dredging depths and long-term use. Most of DSC’s equipment has been in use for more than 30 years, due to superior quality and design.
Nugent Sand Company, established in 1896, is a leading producer of sand and gravel for Kentucky, Indiana, and throughout the Ohio River Valley. Their primary product is concrete sand which is a key component in the manufacturing of ready mix concrete.
With an emphasis on safety, DSC provided training for the Nugent Sand crew, making it easy to transition from land-based equipment to the wet mining needs for this project.
“We’re making a difference by providing the building products that make modern life necessary,” said Damon Hughes, Vice President of Operations at Nugent Sand.
Nugent Sand exceeded production goals at this site in Milton with exceptional support from the entire team at DSC, from conception to installation. DSC understands that downtime is expensive and is focused on providing next-level support and parts supply. Dredge RX is installed on all of Nugent Sand’s equipment, enabling DSC to monitor operations and identify issues before they become a major problem.
“We have an excellent engineering staff and quality control staff to improve cost efficiency. Everything we do is overseen by professional engineers,” added Lyn Condict, Domestic Sales for DSC.
DSC designs dredge solutions for higher production and deeper dredging depths, with the capability to process the most difficult material.
