DSC Dredge, LLC, based in Reserve, Louisiana, was recently awarded the inaugural Gulf Coast Trade Alliance Export Achievement Award for the state of Louisiana. The Gulf Coast Trade Alliance honored DSC with the award on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at a luncheon during the 15th Annual Gulf Coast Trade Alliance World Trade Conference, which took place April 21 and 22 in Point Clear, Alabama.
During the first day of the conference, DSC Dredge Director of International Sales Charles Sinunu joined two panel discussions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning panel discussion, titled “Getting Started in Africa – What You’ll Need to Know,” provided the audience with the panelists’ initial approaches, the challenges they faced and ultimately overcame, and the media they found successful to reach and connect with customers in Africa. The afternoon panel discussion was titled “Mitigating Business Risk in Africa.” This discussion revolved around the barriers to entry that remain in Africa as a consumer market. Corruption, regulation, bureaucracy and lack of infrastructure and local resources all may stand in the way for companies trying to enter the African market. The session focused on key risk factors and how to prepare for and address them.
“The Gulf Coast Trade Alliance acknowledges (DSC’s) dedication and ability to advance international trade and contribute significantly to increasing Gulf Coast exports,” said Christina Stimpson, Director, International Trade, for the Mobile (Alabama) Area Chamber of Commerce. The company was nominated for the award by Brittany Banta, the commercial officer for the New Orleans U.S. Export Assistance Center.
