DSC Dredge engineers were busy in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, in August, starting up the country’s largest dredge to date. The 24-inch (600 mm) Marlin Class dredge from DSC features two dredge pumps – a 24-inch pump located on the ladder and another 24-inch pump located on the dredge’s stern. The dredge has a 23-meter (76-foot) digging depth capability, and is outfitted with spuds for use in waters with a strong current.
SUBMERGED PUMP MINING DREDGE
At DSC Dredge, we know designing and building the exact custom dredge that will boost your efficiency and lower your costs involves working with you and learning your story. The Marlin Class underwater pump mining dredge is designed to meet the needs of deep mining and aggregate deposits. Starting with our base model, we customize the Marlin for your specific application, learning all details of your project, and involving you every step of the way.
The Marlin Class is designed to reach extreme dredging depths due to its underwater pump system and high-torque cutter drive assembly. Available with diesel or electric power, the Marlin can reach dredging depths down to 96 feet (29.3 m). Standard discharge sizes range from 10 inches (250 mm) to 24 inches (600 mm). With customization, the Marlin can reach dredging depths of 200 feet (61 m) and discharge sizes can range up to 36 inches (900 mm)—accommodating a wide range of applications and conditions while maximizing efficiency.

A Nigerian contractor purchased a second 18-inch x 18-inch Marlin Class dredge, along with a DSC multipurpose workboat, after its original DSC dredge provided excellent service at the lowest cost of operation. The Marlin Class dredges were primarily needed for channel dredging, land development and reclamation, as well as mining sharp sand out of the Nigerian rivers.
DSC is proud to announce the launch of a new 22-inch x 20-inch Custom Electric Marlin class, self-propelled, hydraulic cutter-suction dredge at Arkhola Sand and Gravel’s operation in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The technologically advanced barge-loading dredge was designed so that it could be integrated into Arkhola’s existing processing plant, while drastically increasing their overall efficiency. The new dredge will maximize production and allow for a continuous operation with no operational downtime.
