Two local contractors in Delta State, Nigeria, recently took delivery of 10-inch Wolverine Class Dredges, designed and manufactured by DSC Dredge at its Greenbush, Michigan, facility. A Delta State government plan has been put into motion to provide multi-millions of cubic meters of sand to be used for infrastructure improvement, while alleviating flooding problems. Dredging is the perfect solution to capture this sand as a valuable resource, and put it to use in the Asaba city center and outlying areas.

The winter of 2016 was an unusually harsh one for the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor in Santa Cruz, California. Four years of drought was followed by an El Niño season that brought storm water runoff, high tides, high surf and swells – rapidly creating a complete shoaling of the federal entrance channel to the harbor and blocking all boats from entering or leaving. The dredge “Seabright” that had served the harbor for 30 years labored to keep up, and frequent breakdowns only compounded the problem.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation recently took delivery of a new, fully customized cutter suction dredge, which it christened the Dredge Manteo in a ceremony held April 28, 2016, at the at the NCDOT State Shipyard in Manns Harbor, North Carolina. The 154-foot state-of-the-art pipeline dredge, designed and built by DSC Dredge, based in Reserve, Louisiana, will work to keep North Carolina’s state-maintained intercostal ferry channels clear, from the Cape Fear River near Wilmington to Currituck Sound near the North Carolina-Virginia state line.

Desarrolladora La Ribera, S. de R.L. de C.V., La Ribera, Baja, Mexico, developers of the area’s new Costa Palma private beachfront resort community and marina, recently took delivery and received training in the operation of a 10-inch Wolverine Class Dredge, designed and manufactured by DSC Dredge at its Greenbush, Michigan, USA, facility.

Rose City Yacht Club, a long-standing private marina and social club along the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon, recently took delivery and startup of a new 8-inch Badger Class dredge from Reserve, Louisiana-based DSC Dredge, LLC. The Badger dredge was a much-needed replacement for an older dredge the club had purchased used and had operated for more than 20 years. After extensive research into its options, the yacht club’s members decided in early 2015 to order the Badger Class dredge, which is manufactured at DSC’s Greenbush, Michigan, facility. 


August 25, 2015

J.F. Brennan Company, Inc., based in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, recently completed the inaugural project for its newest, fully customized Barracuda Class dredge from DSC Dredge, LLC. The Quad Cities Generating Station, a two-unit nuclear power plant located on the Mississippi River near Cordova, Illinois, requires biennial dredging of siltation near the secured water intake area of the plant. The newly commissioned 12-inch by 12-inch swinging ladder cutterhead Barracuda Class “Victor Buhr” was ideal for this project, which began in late April and was completed in late May 2015.

Coulee Frac Sand, based in La Crosse, Wisconsin, recently took delivery of a 10-inch Wolverine Class cutter suction dredge by DSC Dredge, LLC. The dredge, which was designed and manufactured at DSC Dredge’s Greenbush, Michigan, facility, is mining sand at the PineCrest Mine on the site of Doc’s Bunkhouse campground, near the town of Merrillan in central Wisconsin.  As groundwater was encountered 6 feet below ground level, the company proposed mining the material through the use of a hydraulic dredge, with an onsite processing plant.

The General Authority for Fish Resources Development (GAFRD) is responsible for Egypt’s fisheries management. Lakes Al Burullus, Al Manzalah and Al Edku are economically important to the country, supporting a large fishery and fish farming sector. Unfortunately, over the years, these lakes had become inundated with silt from construction runoff, and were deteriorated further due to lack of proper channel flow, natural vegetation decay and the effects of man-induced drainage.

J.E. Borries Inc. is a 22-year-old, family-owned, full-service marine construction and dredging company based on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The company was awarded a project by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources to complete the dredging of three bayous in and around Gulfport, Mississippi, in an ongoing reconstruction effort following Hurricane Isaac in 2012, which caused siltation along that section of the Mississippi coast. J.E. Borries had previously completed all of its dredging work by mechanical means, using a long-reach excavator or a clamshell friction crane.

The Lake Panorama Rural Improvement Zone, located in Panora, Iowa, about 45 minutes west of Des Moines, maintains the largest private lake in Iowa. With 1,400 acres of lake surface, more than 30 miles of shoreline, 1,000 homes and approximately 200,000 to 300,000 cubic yards of silt to dredge each year, Lake Panorama was in need of upgraded equipment to meet the specific dredging needs of the area.
